40+ Cruelty-Free and Vegan Nail Polish Brands to choose from!

EDITED: Dec 2, 2017

There’s so many  vegan nail polish options on the market right now that I had to share this growing list with you all! I get super excited when I see this many (40+!) cruelty-free brands that all have vegan options!

In case you’re wondering what animal ingredients are lurking in our nail polish? The answer is fish scales (for that shimmery color) and some nail polish are made with shellac which is a by-product from the lac bug.

There’s absolutely no reason to continue purchasing nail polish from OPI, Essie, Revlon, and Sally Hansen when there’s 40+ cruelty-free and vegan nail polish brands available!!

I’ve ordered the list in the image according to their prices from affordability to luxury so that you can find one that meets your budget!

List of 40 cruelty free and vegan nail polish brands!

Are the polishes on this list 5 free or higher? That is the only kind I use and buy.

so what about china glaze? are they trying to go full vegan or are they going backwards?

To be honest, when I first created this list.. I saw that China Glaze was on some other curated cruelty-free list and so I automatically assumed they were CF but since then, I’ve decided to follow-up with each brand myself to confirm their cruelty-free status.

China Glaze has been unresponsive when I was doing my own research. They remain on other CF lists but as of right now, they have been unable to give me a straight answer about their animal testing policy. So unfortunately they’ll remain as pending on my list!

Hi! Thank you for this list. I have always turned to e.l.f. because I thought they claimed to be vegan, yet they are not on your 100%vegan list. What do they use that is not vegan??
Also, I’m wondering about nail polish remover. Can you recommend a good one???

    Thanks !

Hey Carla! Some of ELF’s makeup brushes are made with animal hair. I believe all of their NEW makeup brushes are now synthetic and vegan but some of their older brushes are still available and circulating around so I’m a bit hesitant to label them as 100% Vegan right now =) hope that answers your question.

In regards to vegan nail polish remover, I love the ZOYA nail polish remover! I have a full list available here: http://ethicalelephant.com/cruelty-free-vegan-nail-polish-remover/

Do you know any professional gel polish I can bring my manicurist ?

I am a cosmetologist and I use Jessica Cosmetics as a vegan offering. All Jessica products are 7-FREE (No Formaldehyde, No Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, DSP, Camphor, Xylene or Ethyl Tosylamide), cruelty free, vegan friendly and made in the USA. I especially love that they offer a gel formulation (UV cured) as well. Ask your manicurist.

What do you think?
