Ultimate Vegan & Cruelty-Free Laundry Product List

This post may contain affiliate links.
vegan-laundry-products

Shopping for cruelty-free and animal-free household products can be a pain because manufacturers are not required by law to label all the ingredients contained in their cleaning products. This means we have no idea what we are buying unless a manufacturer voluntarily lists their ingredients. You can imagine what a headache this is for those of us wanting to avoid animal ingredients or by-products in our household!

Animal Ingredients In Laundry Products

Let’s first begin by asking what animal ingredients are commonly found in laundry detergents and products?

Processed animal fats are commonly used as a surfactant in laundry products and according to Veganissimo A to Z, some laundry detergents may also contain enzymes obtained from the organs of killed animals. For example, lipase derived from the pancreas of animals (usually pigs) are added to many laundry detergents in order to improve the cleansing affect in soap production.

How To Find Vegan Laundry Products

I find the best way to ensure household products are indeed vegan and do not contain any sort of animal ingredients or by-products is to contact the company directly and ask. I’ve already done the research for you and happy to bring you this ultimate vegan and cruelty-free laundry products guide!

Below you will find cruelty-free and vegan liquid laundry detergents, powdered laundry detergents, both marked with fragrance-free options, as well as, chlorine-free bleach or laundry whiteners, stain & odor removers, and fabric softeners!

I would like to know about two products that are not listed and that I thought were vegan and cruelty free

Sals Suds laundry detergent by dr bronner and Mrs Meyers dryer sheers. I do hope you will get back to me .

I would love to know if you think they belong on the list.

Mrs Meyers & seventh generation are owned by parent companies that test on animals!!!

        You’re absolutely right, Samantha.

Mrs. Meyers and Seventh Generation are both owned by a non-cruelty-free parent company. This list hasn’t been updated in a while but I’ve added the names of the parent companies next to those brands so that anyone who uses this list stays informed. Thanks for reminding me to update this list! =)

Pretty surprised that Dr. Bronnerโ€™s Castile soap didnโ€™t make the list! That stuff works as…well, EVERYTHING. Cruelty free and vegan, itโ€™s marketed as an โ€œ18-in-1โ€ and while I havenโ€™t tried all 18 potential uses, I will definitely say that it works amazing for cleaning my floors, my glass, my dishes, my clothes, my body, my face, and my hair. Saves tons of plastic waste from purchasing all those products separately, does the job shockingly well, comes cheap when you think of all the things itโ€™s good for, available as liquid or solid, large natural scent range, and no animals hurt in the making. My favorite scent is โ€˜roseโ€™, but thereโ€™s one to suit every noseโ€”even scentless. I canโ€™t recommend it highly enough and Iโ€™d definitely say itโ€™s worth checking out.

I wish someone could come up with a monthly magazine to educate/inform people on cruelty free products for their everyday lives! Thanks..

Molly’s Suds is vegan and cruelty free … laundry products, pet shampoos, many others. They do, however, sell the wool balls to use in a dryer.

Thanks for listing the powder laundry detergent! My husband does not like liquid laundry detergent because of the “mess”.
    What is your favorite?
I’m a little nervous to look at the makeup lists. I had no idea animal stuff was used in the big name laundry soaps. Yikes!

OBSESSED with your blog! Keep it and keep on spreading the vegan message! But I had a question, why are all of the method products crossed out?
    thanks xx

Aw, so glad to hear you’re enjoying my blog!!! =D

There’s a little note at the bottom explaining why.. I’ve edited it to be more noticeable now! =) But basically, Method (as well as their parent company, Ecover) have confirmed that their products/ingredients are tested on daphnia (water fleas).

Logical Harmony has a detailed article about the recent findings, which you can read here! http://logicalharmony.net/is-method-cruelty-free/

Although both Ecover and Method are Leaping Bunny certified.. unfortunately I personally don’t think that daphnia testing is necessary and it’s still part of “animal testing” so sadly I’m removing Ecover and Method from my list of cruelty-free brands =(

    Hi Vicky,

I have just come across your website (blog). I love it! nice choice of colours. Anyway moving on i am glad to see the list of laundry detergents and fabric softeners you have listed. Thank you for taking the time to research products and state them on your blog, it makes life so much easier for me ๐Ÿ™‚

I will have a look at these brands and hopefully will be able to purchase them in the UK.

I was came across your skin care blog, I was shopping today for a cleanser and saw the brand ‘Avene’ in Boots. I decided not to buy their products until i got home and did some research to find out if they are cruelty free/vegan, that’s when i seen your comments about this particular brand on your blog and i think its safe to say i won’t be purchasing their products.

I think its a shame though because it looks like their products would suit my skin. (I have sensitive skin that is acne prone!) Maybe you could help me with this ?

P..s keep up the good work.

I am on Instagram if you would like to follow me @ Chelsea_crook_vegan
