Looking for the best cruelty-free & vegan foundation that is long-lasting, weightless, with naturally beautiful coverage?

In this cruelty-free foundation guide, I’m sharing the best vegan foundations; whether you prefer a lightweight sheer tint or a long-wearing full-coverage foundation, there’s something for you in this list!

What To Look For:

Let’s first begin by asking what exactly are vegan foundations? Some liquid, powder, and stick foundations contain animal-derived ingredients and by-products including tallow, carmine, beeswax, animal-based glycerin, stearic acid, or some other animal-derived additives.

In addition, most drugstore and high-end foundations are from makeup brands that still test on animals like Make Up For Ever, NARS, Estee Lauder, MAC Cosmetics, Lancome, L’Oreal Paris, Giorgio Armani, Shiseido, Maybelline, Dior, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Clarins, Chanel, Tom Ford, and should be avoided when looking for a cruelty-free and vegan foundation.

  1. Great list of cruelty free foundations! Wet n Wild CoverALL is one of my favorites and is works great but I noticed the Wet n Wild 15SPF Ultimate Match is super watery and very hard to get out of the container. (I added some face lotion to it and put it into a new container and worked decently (: I defiantly want to try e l f foundations next time I pick up a new foundation. Thanks for posting this! (:

    1. Oh you are so welcome, Summer! Thank YOU for reading =) I’ve heard the same thing about the Wet n Wild Ultimate Match foundation and that the coverage is very sheer and watery like you said. That’s a good trick about adding face lotion to it though! =) Definitely a great makeup hack!

    1. Hi Matias!
More than happy to help! Wet’n’Wild products are actually NOT sold in China. Not sure where you got that information but if you found evidence that they do.. please email me at [email protected] linking any articles or posts suggesting that they do and I’ll look into it for you! =)

They may sell and ship TO China when Chinese consumers buy from their website.. and in this case, their products do NOT have to be registered and therefore they don’t have to be tested on animals. It’s different if they have stores IN China (excluding Hong Kong) or any retail shops carry their physical products.

Wet’n’Wild products may also be MADE in China and in that case, they also do NOT have to be tested on animals. The only case where they are required by law to test on animals is if they are selling their products in a store in China.

Hope that clears things up for you, you’re always welcome to email me directly if you have any questions, Matias! =)

    1. Hm.. where did you hear or find out that ELF sells in China? As far as I know, ELF has chosen not to sell in mainland China. If they’re selling their products in Hong Kong, then those products are actually NOT required by law to be tested on animals. I’ll do some digging now to investigate this allegation because that would be a shame! =(

    2. Hi again Kathie! ELF got back to me very quickly and this is their response:

“Thank you for your interest in elf cosmetics. Our products are manufactured overseas, mainly in China. We have strict quality control procedures to ensure that our products are free from lead and hazardous materials. Please note that we do not sell our products directly in China, due to our cruelty free policy.”

For anyone else who is also reading this, to confirm… cosmetics MADE in China are NOT required to be tested on animals and only cosmetics that are SOLD in mainland China ARE required by law to be tested on animals.

I personally believe elf cosmetics when they say none of their products are sold in China. But if you have other reasons to believe that elf cosmetics isn’t being truthful in their response and you have evidence that their products are sold in China, please let me know as I would be more than happy to look into it! =)

  2. I just found your blog and I wish I would’ve found you sooner! I also see you’re a fellow Canadian 🙂 I’ve only read some of your posts but they are so informative and have helped my transition to a vegan and cruelty-free lifestyle much easier!
