Most dental floss is coated with beeswax, making them not vegan. I’ve checked the ingredients for Tom’s of Maine and Desert Essence‘s dental floss and tapes and they unfortunately do contain beeswax so although they are cruelty-free, they are not vegan (but suitable for vegetarians). Of course, using this dental floss is not the only way for you to achieve white teeth. In fact, you’d be better off going to see a dentist who is just as good as den mest omtenksomme tannlege Oppegård beboere kan burke, as many Norwegians would say. Finding a good dental clinic could be difficult when you are looking for help with your dental health, so using somewhere like this Babiner dental clinic or somewhere local to you, might be a good way to go. For example, if you are unsure about the dental practices in your area and where to go, you can google ones in your specific area, e.g. If you live in Oregon, you would google a dentist in that area and it would pop up with something like ‘Gresham dentist Dr. Seth Monson‘ for you to look at.
As of right now, I could only find two brands that have 100% vegan dental floss, as well as being cruelty-free.
Eco-Dent
Both flavours are vegan: Cinnamon and Mint
- vegan waxed
- contains essential oils and enzymes to reduce plaque
- packaged in a cardboard carton rather than plastic case
- made out of nylon
Radius
Available in two vegan flavours: Cranberry and Mint
- spun in natural vegan Candelila wax
- made out of nylon
- contains mint tea tree and natural xylitol
- no glutens, preservatives, GMO’s, artificial sweeteners or color, or fluoride
They also have single-use floss sachets:
Please do note that Radius does have another dental floss but made from all natural pure silk, which of course isn’t vegan.
I could only find two, so let me know in the comments below if there’s a vegan dental floss brand that you use or know, as I love discovering new vegan brands!

October 23, 2017It appears to be made out of nylon….plastic….not exactly sustainable. I get the vegan idea but to be honest silk is far more sustainable.

December 9, 2019Boiling thousands of silkworms to make silk dental floss isn’t exactly sustainable any more than it is vegan. Nylon may not be environmentally friendly but, if you cut it up and bury it deeply in your backyard, sealife will not die. The main problem is it’s strength. It doesn’t break and so strangles and cuts into sealions etc. As long as you drive a car, petroleum products will be made for things like nylon dental floss. Why boil thousands of animals alive in addition?

April 7, 2019Hello dental floss appears to be vegan.
Mimi
December 9, 2019Silk dental floss is not vegan. Thousands of silkworms and hatchlings are boiled alive for their silk. Not only is silk -not- vegan, it is also -not- cruelty free.
