Shopping at Sephora but wondering which brands are cruelty-free and vegan? In this List of Cruelty-Free Brands at Sephora, you’ll be able to find out which brands are cruelty-free and don’t test on animals, as well as, which brands are 100% vegan where none of their products contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products.

About this list: I went through Sephora US & Canada’s entire brand directory list of over 300+ brands and vetted each company using our Cruelty-Free Checklist to determine if they test on animals at any stage of product development and manufacturing, anywhere in the world.

In order to be classified as Cruelty-Free, brands must meet all of the criteria in our Cruelty-Free Checklist including not selling their products in mainland China under conditions that would trigger animal tests.

This brand is not cruelty-free; tests on animals
This brand is cruelty-free!; does not test on animals (may or may not be a 100% vegan brand)
This brand is cruelty-free but is either owned by a parent company that does test on animals or doesn’t offer any vegan options
I received a response from this brand but am not 100% satisfied with the information provided to claim if they’re cruelty-free or not
Vegan! – This brand only offers vegan products; no animal-derived ingredients or by-products

  1. This list is so helpful! I noticed that Huda Beauty is marked as cruelty-free, but they sell real mink lashes. How does this work?

    1. I’m using the term “cruelty-free” here to describe brands that don’t test on animals. So, I’ve verified that Huda Beauty doesn’t test their ingredients or products on animals.

Sadly, you’re correct that some of Huda Beauty’s lashes are made from real mink hair and some of their cosmetics also contain animal-derived ingredients like beeswax and carmine.

But as mentioned, the term “cruelty-free” is generally used to imply the brand doesn’t test on animals.

For more info, see this post here: https://ethicalelephant.com/crueltyfree-vs-vegan/

    1. Pat McGrath is on Logical Harmony’s “Brands to Avoid” List and is noted that they do test on animals when required by law.

I’ve tried reaching out to them to verify but haven’t heard back. They’re labelled as not cruelty-free for now, but if I hear back from them with an answer I’m satisfied with then I’ll be more than happy to label them as being cruelty-free! =)

  2. Hi Vicky,
This was so incredibly helpful as I made a purchase at Sephora today and as you probably know you are offered a selection of samples to choose from and a lot of the brands I had not even heard of (I live in Western Australia). Thanks to you I was able to make the right choices. You really are amazing with the amount of time you must put into this so that we all have no excuse for making wrong choices. Do you have a link anywhere on your site (I haven’t looked yet) that we can make a small donation to help you out with keeping up this great information? Your a bloody legend!!! PS This is probably a really really dumb question and it was probably staring me straight in the face but why do some brands have a black line through them? Thanks again for all you do.

    1. Hi Marcie!
Oh my goodness, thank you so so so so much for leaving such a sweet comment!!! and I’m so happy to hear that you found this list helpful while you were placing your Sephora order! That’s the exact reason why I’ve created such a list =)

Haha, not a dumb question. I’m glad you asked!! There’s probably other readers wondering the exact same thing as I wasn’t really clear about that in my legend up at the top of the page. Some brands have a black line through them to indicate those brands are NOT cruelty-free. I try to make it as obvious as possible to show which brands are cruelty-free or not and sometimes having certain brands a different color isn’t enough so I took it a step further and “crossed out” the brands to avoid. That’s all! =)

  3. Hi!
You have listed Huda beauty as cruelty free, but they sell mink lashes? How can the brand be considered cruelty free and sell real mink lashes?

    1. Hey Rebecca,
When I use the term “cruelty-free” here, I’m only referring to whether the brand test on animals or not. So Huda Beauty is a cruelty-free brand in the sense that they do not test on animals.
However, you’re absolutely right that Huda Beauty does sell some mink lashes made out of real animal fur but they also do offer some vegan and animal-free lashes. You can find more information about Huda Beauty’s vegan and cruelty-free status here >> https://ethicalelephant.com/huda-beauty-cruelty-free-vegan/
