Shopping at Sephora but wondering which brands are cruelty-free and vegan? In this List of Cruelty-Free Brands at Sephora, you’ll be able to find out which brands are cruelty-free and don’t test on animals, as well as, which brands are 100% vegan where none of their products contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products.

About this list: I went through Sephora US & Canada’s entire brand directory list of over 300+ brands and vetted each company using our Cruelty-Free Checklist to determine if they test on animals at any stage of product development and manufacturing, anywhere in the world.

In order to be classified as Cruelty-Free, brands must meet all of the criteria in our Cruelty-Free Checklist including not selling their products in mainland China under conditions that would trigger animal tests.

This brand is not cruelty-free; tests on animals
This brand is cruelty-free!; does not test on animals (may or may not be a 100% vegan brand)
This brand is cruelty-free but is either owned by a parent company that does test on animals or doesn’t offer any vegan options
I received a response from this brand but am not 100% satisfied with the information provided to claim if they’re cruelty-free or not
Vegan! – This brand only offers vegan products; no animal-derived ingredients or by-products

  1. I’m still confused about Laura Mercier as they are not sold in Sephora China and their online policy indicates they don’t test on animals. Is it the language they use about suppliers that’s vague? I know they are owned by Shiseido which tests but I don’t see where Laura Mercier does. At one time they did state “except where required by law” but they acknowledge they never entered the China or Brazil markets and no longer plan to pursue that and have since removed that disclaimer from packaging.

  2. Thank you for this list, I wonder if The Ordinary is still partially owned by Estée Lauder? I didn’t see any press material saying that this is no longer the case. Moreover, Huda beauty used to sell mink eyelashes…

  3. Verso Skincare does NOT test on animals. Here’s what they emailed me:

We produce our products here in Sweden and it is not allowed by law to
test on animals(if ever wanted to). Verso is vegan and cruelty free. We do
    not sell in China.

    1. Hi Adele,

They emailed me telling me that they do NOT verify or certify that their ingredient suppliers do not test on animals. I’ll follow-up with them to see if there are any possible changes to their animal testing policy!

  4. Maire O'Callaghan

Thank you for compiling this impressive list. I recognize the time you’ve spent and how much work has been put into creating this list—for the benefit of people like me who will only buy cruelty-free products. It’s people like you who really contribute to a cruelty-free world where animals are treated fairly and with compassion. Thank you again.

    1. Thank you so so so much Maire for leaving such a sweet and sincere comment!! <3 It means the world to me to read comments like yours! =) They're honestly the reason I do what I do so thank you for continuing to be a voice for the voiceless and for all your support!!!

  5. Hi,

I notice that you question if Fenty Beauty and Marc Jacobs Beauty is Cruelty Free and I can say they are since they are made by the same people that makes Kat Von D products. The company name is Kendo.

    1. Hi there!
I verify each and every brand individually and unfortunately, I received a response or no response at all from both Fenty and Marc Jacobs Beauty that I wasn’t completely satisfied with.

Fenty couldn’t comment on whether their ingredient suppliers test on animals.

Marc Jacobs Beauty also told me in the past that they do not verify that their ingredient suppliers do or do not test on animals. When I reached out to them more recently, they haven’t replied back after multiple attempts.

I would love to mark both of these brands as being cruelty-free but until I hear back from them, they’re labeled with an incomplete verification for now.
