Is Jo Malone Cruelty-Free?

Jo Malone fragrances and gift boxes are seen everywhere, so I wanted to know whether Jo Malone test any of their products or ingredients on animals? Or if they sell in foreign markets that may require animal testing.

To my discovery, Jo Malone products are tested on animals, when required by law and therefore they cannot be considered cruelty-free.

Jo Malone’s Animal Testing Statement

On Jo Malone’s website, it  states:

“We do not conduct animal testing on our products or ingredients, nor ask others to test on our behalf, except when required by law.”

The statement “except when required by law” usually means that the brand is selling their products in foreign markets that may require animal testing, like Mainland China (not including Hong Kong), where they currently require all imported cosmetics be tested on animals by law.

After some digging, I finally found several Jo Malone boutique locations in Mainland China, this means that Jo Malone must have consented to have their products/ingredients tested on animals according to China’s current laws.

This was further confirmed when I received an email response from their customer service team stating:

“Thank you so much for your thoughtful inquiry about Jo Malone’s position. Jo Malone does not test on animals and we never ask others to do so on our behalf. If a regulatory body demands it for its safety assessment, an exception can be made

It should also be noted that Jo Malone is owned by Estee Lauder, a corporation that continues to test on animals.

Is Jo Malone Cruelty-free?

Answer:

Unfortunately, I would NOT consider Jo Malone to be cruelty-free as they consent to have their products/ingredients tested on animals in order to sell in Mainland China.

Until China no longer require this or Jo Malone decides to pull their products out of selling in China, Jo Malone is NOT cruelty-free.

I can’t buy these either until they don’t test on any animals.

i am so disappointed I can not believe Jo Malone is testing on animals and would not stand up to countries that insist on doing so.
I will not be buying Jo Malone for anyone or myself again.
