Is SHEGLAM cruelty-free or vegan? Here’s what we know! Read below for more details on SHEGLAM’s policies.
It is currently unclear whether SHEGLAM is truly cruelty-free.
SHEGLAM does not sell its products in stores in mainland China.
SHEGLAM claims some of its products are “vegan” and do not contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products however, since SHEGLAM’s cruelty-free status is unclear, we would not consider any of their products vegan at this time.

SHEGLAM’s Cruelty-Free Status is Unclear

SHEGLAM failed to address most of our cruelty-free questions.

As a result, we are unable to classify SHEGLAM as being truly cruelty-free or animal-tested. Therefore, SHEGLAM is listed as Grey AreaBrands with Unclear Policies.

SHEGLAM’s Animal Testing Policy

SHEGLAM states in the product descriptions of their website: “100% CRUELTY FREE Our manufacturers do not affiliate or use ingredients from sources that are not cruelty-free.”

However, this is not enough information for us to classify SHEGLAM or any other brand as being cruelty-free to our standards.

So I reached out to SHEGLAM to ask for more information about their animal testing policy. More specifically, I wanted to know if they commission or allow others to test, not just their finished products but their ingredients, on animals, including when selling in countries that require animal testing (like in mainland China).

And SHEGLAM responded by saying:

“All of SHEGLAM products are 100% cruelty free! We only choose to work with manufacturers and affliates who source and use ingredients that are cruelty free!

Most of SHEGLAM products are vegan. If you are interested in our product ingredients, feel free to check out all ingredients of SHEGLAM products.

For detailed product ingredients, please refer to the “Ingredient” part in each item page. You can find the ingredient list for each product there.

Our manufacturer has undergone rigorous review and is currently supplying luxury and high-end beauty brand products to many well-known international brands. We have a strict product safety control system and the quality is guaranteed just like the luxury beauty brands. All products comply with all cosmetic safety regulations, including FDA standards and European Council Directive 76/768/EEC.”

“There are no our products sold in stores in mainland China.”

Again, this is still not enough information for us to consider SHEGLAM to be a brand committed to ensuring none of its products or ingredients are tested on animals throughout its entire supply chain.

SHEGLAM keeps stating its products and ingredients are “100% cruelty-free!” But “Cruelty-Free” is an unregulated term, meaning companies that test on animals can call their products or their brand “Cruelty-Free!” and it can mean whatever they want it to mean.

That’s why at ethical elephant, we always assess a company’s cruelty-free policy using our Cruelty-Free Checklist. This ensures no animal testing was performed by the brand itself, its suppliers, and by any third parties, including when required by law.

See below for our complete cruelty-free checklist. Since SHEGLAM failed to address most of our cruelty-free questions, we cannot classify the brand as being truly cruelty-free or animal-tested.

Complete Cruelty-Free Checklist

Is SHEGLAM Cruelty-Free?

SHEGLAM did not address most of our cruelty-free questions. Therefore, we are unable to classify SHEGLAM as being truly cruelty-free or animal-tested.

Currently, SHEGLAM is on our Grey Area Brands List – Brands with Unclear Policies.

Is SHEGLAM Vegan?

SHEGLAM claims some of its products are “vegan” and do not contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products however, since SHEGLAM’s cruelty-free status is unclear, we would not consider any of their products vegan at this time.

In order for products to be considered vegan by ethical elephant’s standards, the products and their ingredients must not be tested on animals anywhere in the world. Also, they must not contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products.
