Is NuFACE Cruelty-Free?

NuFACE is known for their microcurrent facial devices but is NuFACE cruelty-free in 2021? Here’s what we know!

Is NuFACE Cruelty-Free?

NuFACE is NOT Cruelty-free. NuFACE pays and allows its products to be tested on animals when required by law.

NuFACE Animal Testing Policy

Upon researching NuFACE’s cruelty-free status, I couldn’t find any mention of the company’s official animal testing policy anywhere on their website, which is never a good sign.

So I emailed the brand asking if any of its products or ingredients are tested on animals. Either by the company itself, commissioned to a third party to test on its behalf, or by any of its suppliers. They responded saying,

Thank you for contacting NuFACE. We appreciate your interest in our company. NuFACE does not conduct testing of our cosmetic products on animals and require non-animal testing statements from our raw material suppliers during product development. All skincare and gel primers are vegan.

Our NuFACE Gel Primers are medical devices and regulated by the US FDA2. During product development, we source raw materials which are not tested on animals but animal testing is required by the FDA to ensure safety of the final product. NuFACE is concerned with animal welfare standards and the quality and safety of our products. NuFACE is monitoring alternatives to animal testing closely, as China is also taking steps toward reducing the use of animal testing.

In the email response from NuFACE, they claim they don’t test on animals, however, animal testing is required by the FDA to ensure the safety of its medical devices, including NuFACE’s Gel Primers.

Unfortunately, that means NuFACE is required by law to test on animals.

Many truly cruelty-free brands have chosen not to produce or market cosmetic products that would require new animal tests. Unfortunately, NuFACE refuses to do the same and has decided to put profits before the welfare of animals.

Summary: NuFACE is NOT Cruelty-Free!

NuFACE allows its products to be tested on animals when required by law and for this reason, we would not consider NuFACE to be a cruelty-free brand.

Currently, NuFACE is on our List of Brands to Avoid – Animal Tested.

Is NuFACE Vegan?

Since we would not consider NuFACE to be cruelty-free as their products are tested on animals when required by law, we also wouldn’t consider anything sold or manufactured by NuFACE to be vegan.

In order for products to be considered vegan by ethical elephant’s standards, the products and their ingredients must not be tested on animals, anywhere in the world, and also must not contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products.
