Please read till the end ๐ŸŒฟ I recently bought these plant-based scour pads from @fullcircle, they're made from walnut shells and non-toxic materials ๐Ÿงฝ They work almost as good as plastic/synthetic scour pads and does the job of gently removing most dirt while not scratching my pans โญ๏ธ They were also made in Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ and Full Circle is certified B Corporation with a commitment to reduce their environmental impact, claiming their products use less energy and emit fewer greenhouse gases in production. ๐ŸŒฑ This all sounded great, which was why I bought them as I wanted a plastic-free and compostable alternative -- BUT, upon further research.. their website states their walnut shell scour pads are made of: Walnut shells AND recycled plastic! ๐Ÿ˜” Making them actually NOT compostable.
Ahh yes, I should have done more research before buying and also, why wasn't recycled plastic listed on their packaging!?
On the surface, these may be a better option than other synthetic scour pads or sponges on the market as it's made from *recycled* plastic but I totally fell for the greenwashing here. Yes -- I, too make mistakes! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I'm posting this mishap of mine to show you that living sustainably is a journey, and lessons will be learned along the way. This has taught me to do more research than just reading the product's packaging or an online retailer's product description before buying... And now that I know better, I can do better! ๐ŸŒฟ
๐ŸŒป What eco-friendly or plastic-free sponges do u recommend?

Some grocery stores have temporarily banned the use of reusable bags fear of the potential risk of further spreading the virus. Instead, stores will be handing out plastic bags to customers, free of charge.
โœง Totally understandable given our current situation, so this is a great time to make sure all of our reusable bags are washed and if needed, repaired ๐ŸŒฟ
โœง แด‡แด„แด-แด›ษชแด˜: For bigger and bulkier items, I always like to use boxes (the grocery stores always have these on hand and they're totally free!) and when I forget to bring my reusable bags, I try to limit the number of items I buy to however many I can carry in my hands and out the store.
โœง Buying produce (like leafy greens ๐Ÿฅฌ) without a bag is another story... Iโ€™d love to know, do you have any tips or tricks for reducing our plastic consumption while buying produce during these times?

Is Models Own Cruelty-free?

This post may contain affiliate links.

Models Own is an affordable UK-based makeup and nail polish brand but are Models Own’s finished products or ingredients tested on animals?

After receiving an email response from the company, I am happy to report that Models Own is cruelty-free with some vegan options!

Keep reading if you want to learn more about Models Own’s animal testing policy.

Models Own Animal Testing Statement 2018

When I initially emailed Models Own inquiring about their animal testing policy, they referred me back to a page on their website called “Furry Friendly!”

On this page, you can find an underwhelming statement reading:

“Our approach to animal testing is simple. We don’t do it. We don’t test our finished products or ingredients on any animals. End of story.

In fact, our products are totally vegan where possible.”

The first thing I noticed was how Models Own is displaying PETA’s trademark bunny logo on the right of this page although Models Own is not listed on PETA’s Cruelty-free database. If they are displaying the logo without permission they are actually breaking the law. It looks like Models Own needs to check the trademark registration database before displaying other companies logos.

Companies are allowed to use and display PETA’s trademark bunny logo only if they’re accredited by the organization, so Models Own is actually using this trademark bunny logo without permission.

Not sure if this was a mistake from their design team but I thought it was worth mentioning here to remind us all to double-check lists and databases before buying!

Models Own’s Animal Testing Policy

Despite the trademark bunny logo mishap, this doesn’t mean Models Own isn’t cruelty-free so to get to the bottom of whether I would qualify Models Own as cruelty-free, I asked the following questions in bold; Models Own’s response is in grey.

– Do you test your raw ingredients on animals? No we donโ€™t do any animal testing at all. Never done so and never will
– Do you ask any third parties to test your products or ingredients on animals on your behalf? No.
– Do any of your raw material suppliers test on animals? *If not, how do you verify that they donโ€™t?* They donโ€™t test on animals. We are specific in asking this question to our suppliers and the supporting documentation we receive states as such
– Are any of your products available for sale in China or do you have plans to sell within China in the future? No & No, not until they stop making it compulsory to test on cosmetics imported into China

I am quite satisfied with the response from Models Own and I would qualify Models Own as being cruelty-free!

Is Models Own Vegan?

Models Own states “our products are totally vegan where possible.”

What on earth does that even mean?!

In an email response they told me, “we try and make sure that anything we make is Vegan friendly. Sometimes we will use something like a Beeโ€™s wax because the formula will only get the required standard by adding it.”

So in other words, Models Own offers some vegan products, but not all of their products are vegan as they do use some animal-derived ingredients like beeswax.
