maude claims to offer some “vegan” options that are free of animal-derived ingredients, but because maude engages in animal testing, we wouldn’t classify anything sold or produced by maude to be vegan.

Is maude Cruelty-Free?

☠️ maude is NOT cruelty-free in 2023. maude allows its products to be tested on animals when required by law.

maude’s Animal Testing Policy

When asking, does maude test on animals? We must look beyond to ensure none of maude’s ingredients or suppliers test on animals. And they don’t allow their products or ingredients to be tested on animals when required by law.

To assess whether brands are cruelty-free, I always start with the company’s official animal testing policy on their website.”

maude claims on its FAQ page that some of its products are “vegan and made with cruelty-free ingredients.” However, when viewing the FAQ section for Shine products, maude states its lubricants and condoms are FDA-compliant and that all FDA-approved medical devices and cannot be classified as cruelty-free.

Based on their statement, maude states some of its products are considered medical devices and FDA-compliant. And as a result, they are legally required to perform animal tests for their medical devices. For those reasons, maude is NOT cruelty-free.

At ethical elephant, we always assess a company’s cruelty-free policy using our Cruelty-Free Checklist. This ensures no animal testing was performed by the brand itself, its suppliers, or by any third parties, including when required by law.

See below for our complete cruelty-free checklist. Since some of muade’s products are required by law to be tested on animals , we cannot classify the brand as being cruelty-free.

Is maude Certified Cruelty-Free?

maude is not certified cruelty-free by any third-party cruelty-free certifications like Leaping Bunny or PETA.

Since maude is not certified cruelty-free by a third party, no one is substantiating or auditing maude’s cruelty-free commitments and claims.

Does maude Test on Animals?

To wrap up, some of maude products are considered medical devices and must be tested on animals as required by law. Therefore, we would NOT consider maude to be a cruelty-free brand.

Is maude Vegan?

maude is NOT vegan. maude claims to offer some “vegan” options that are free of animal-derived ingredients, but maude engages in animal testing in some capacity, so we wouldn’t consider any maude products vegan at this time.

In order for products to be considered vegan by ethical elephant’s standards, the products and their ingredients must not be tested on animals anywhere in the world. Also, they must not contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products.
