Is Love Beauty and Planet cruelty-free?

It is currently unclear whether Love Beauty and Planet is truly cruelty-free. Love Beauty and Planet is owned by Unilever, a corporation that continues to test on animals. However Love Beauty and Planet claims their products are not tested on animals and are 100% vegan but no further information was provided.

Not enough information was provided to determine whether Love Beauty and Planet test on animals or not.

Love Beauty and Planet Animal Testing Policy

There is virtually no information about Love Beauty and Planet’s animal testing policy on their website, except for this underwhelming description:

“We also make our products vegan and never test on animals.” (Source: Love Beauty and Planet)

I emailed the company to ask for specifics about their animal testing policy and received the following response:

Love Beauty and Planet inherits the same animal testing policy as their parent company, Unilever.

Unilever is known to be a corporation that continues to test on animals and the part in their animal testing statement that implies they test on animals is this sentence “Where some testing is required by law or currently unavoidable, we aim to minimize the number of animals used.”

In the screenshot above, you’ll also see that when I emailed Love Beauty and Planet, I received Unilever’s animal testing policy with a small snippet in the middle claiming that “Love, Beauty and Planet products are never tested on animals and the ingredients are 100% vegan.” When I pressed for more information about Love Beauty and Planet’s animal testing policy, I never received a response back.

I do not feel confident or comfortable claiming Love Beauty and Planet as being cruelty-free because although none of their products are tested on animals, they weren’t able to comment or clarify whether their ingredients are tested on animals.

It’s also implied that all of Love Beauty and Planet’s products do not contain any animal ingredients however brands can produce and market products that are vegan but not cruelty-free.

Ultimately, Love Beauty and Planet has not provided me with enough information about their ingredients and ingredient suppliers and therefore I am unable to determine whether I would consider them as a cruelty-free brand or not. I am publishing my correspondence with them so that you can make up your own mind about their cruelty-free status.
