Eve Lom is NOT Cruelty-Free!
Eve Lom allows its products or ingredients to be tested on animals when required by law.
2022 Update! Eve Lom claims it no longer sells in China. I am currently re-verifying Eve Lom’s cruelty-free claims and commitments.
Eve Lom’s Animal Testing Policy
Eve Lom states on their website, “Eve Lom does not test on animals and never asks others to do so on its behalf. However, if an international authority demands such testing for safety or regulatory assessment, unfortunately, it is obliged to comply.”
Policies stating, “if an international authority demands such testing”, usually imply the company is selling its products in mainland China. Because most imported cosmetics sold in stores in mainland China are required by law to be tested on animals.
Is Eve Lom Sold in China?
2022 Update! Eve Lom claims their products are not sold in stores in China. In an email response, Eve Lom told me they only sell their products online and then ship them to customers in China.
Therefore, Eve Lom is not required to test on animals if they’re only selling online and shipping to China.
The following is a snippet of the email response I received from Eve Lom when I asked if their products are sold in China:
“We do not test on animals, we do ship to China but they do not need to test our ingredients because they do not sell them in China we just ship them there.”
At ethical elephant, we always assess a company’s cruelty-free policy using our Cruelty-Free Checklist. This ensures no animal testing was performed by the brand itself, its suppliers, or by any third parties, including when required by law.
See below for our complete cruelty-free checklist.
Is Eve Lom Certified Cruelty-Free?
Eve Lom is not certified cruelty-free by any third-party cruelty-free certifications like Leaping Bunny or PETA.
Because Eve Lom is not certified cruelty-free by a third party, no one is looking into or substantiating Eve Lom’s cruelty-free commitments and claims.
Is Eve Lom Cruelty-Free?
Eve Lom allows its products to be tested on animals when required by law. Therefore, we would NOT consider Eve Lom to be a cruelty-free brand.
Currently, Eve Lom is on our List of Brands to Avoid – Animal Tested.
Is Eve Lom Vegan?
Eve Lom claims to offer some “vegan” options that are free of animal-derived ingredients, but because Eve Lom engages in animal testing, we wouldn’t classify anything sold or produced by Eve Lom to be vegan.
In order for products to be considered vegan by ethical elephant’s standards, the products and their ingredients must not be tested on animals anywhere in the world. Also, they must not contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products.
I also noticed Sephora listing some of Eve Lom products in their “Vegan Skincare” category but note that Eve Lom is NOT cruelty-free. Eve Lom products are tested on animals.
Sephora is labeling products as “vegan” when they’re formulated without any animal ingredients or by-products. But “Vegan” Cosmetics should also consider whether the products or their ingredients were tested on animals, anywhere in the world.
