Unfortunately, most drugstore and high-end mascara are from brands that DO test on animals, like Lancome, Benefit, L’Oreal, Mac, Clinique, Maybelline, Chanel, Dior, and Bobbi Brown. And should be avoided when shopping for cruelty-free mascara.

I was wondering if you’ve checked out “essence”. I haven’t seen you mention it but I got it from Shoppers Drug Mart for like 3 dollars! They claim they’re cruelty free and vegan but you never know!

I have reached out to Essence several times before and I haven’t been satisfied with the response I received from them. They keep referring to the EU animal testing laws where it is prohibited to test or sell any cosmetics and ingredients on animals within the EU.
However, Essence isn’t just sold in the EU as we, Canadians, can buy their products at Shoppers! So when I requested for more information about how they monitor whether their products or ingredients are tested on animals OUTSIDE the EU, I never received a response back =(
I’ve been seeing Blinc mascara recommended by a lot of people, but they seem to have changed their recipe as all of them now contain beeswax. Just mentioning it in case you hadn’t come across it – I’m gutted that I won’t get to try it!
My favorite everyday mascara is Emani. 100% vegan and cruelty-free. However, although it stays on well for people with regular jobs, it is not waterproof. For my extreme-conditions job I need a good waterproof mascara that won’t tear my eyelashes out (like ELF), won’t be wishy-washy (changing ingredients once they have an established customer base, or avoiding answering questions about animal testing or other issues.), or won’t make me have an allergic reaction (all Pacifica products.) I need more info on waterproof vegan choices.
I use the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. I’m looking for another vegan mascara because I want a Brown mascara and I don’t think Too Faced offers any Brown Mascaras.
In my case, brown is a better color for everyday use. It makes my eyelashes look longer without making them look too unnatural. Black is more for dressing up.
