some cosmetics labeled as 'vegan' doesn't necessarily mean they're also cruelty-free.
.
How? the term '๐šŒ๐š›๐šž๐šŽ๐š•๐š๐šข-๐š๐š›๐šŽ๐šŽ' is generally used to imply the products and its ingredients were not tested on animals, whereas the term '๐šŸ๐šŽ๐š๐šŠ๐š—' is generally used to imply the products do not contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products (like carmine, beeswax, lanolin, honey, etc.)
.
๐“ท๐“ธ๐“ฝ๐“ฎ: I'm saying 'generally' here because this is how the cosmetic industry is generally using these two terms, that's not to say these are ideal or perfect definitions and tbh, if it were up to me, there wouldn't be a difference as almost all animal-derived ingredients cannot be obtained in a 'cruelty-free' manner, but I digress.

1๏ธโƒฃ Garnier claims their Ultimate Blends and new Fructis hair products are โ€˜veganโ€™, explaining these products do not contain animal-derived ingredients or by-products. But Garnier is actually not a cruelty-free brand, as Garnier does test on animals when required by law
.
2๏ธโƒฃ In 2017, Lโ€™Orealโ€™s EverPure Shampoo and Conditioners were spotted with a โ€˜100% Veganโ€™ stamp on the packaging. Lโ€™Oreal claims these products are โ€˜veganโ€™ in which they donโ€™t contain animal-derived ingredients or by-products, but Lโ€™Oreal is definitely not a cruelty-free brand. Lโ€™Oreal does test on animals when required by law.
.
๐Ÿ” Look for products that are both cruelty-free ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ vegan to ensure the products and its ingredients were not tested on animals ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ it doesn't contain animal-derived ingredients or by-products.

Do you know of any other brands/products that claim to be vegan but isn't cruelty-free?๐Ÿค”

This post may contain affiliate links.

There are plenty of cruelty-free and vegan-friendly shampoo available at your local drugstore and to help you navigate through the shampoo aisle, I’ve created this list of vegan shampoo brands that don’t test on animals or contain any animal-derived ingredients.

All of the brands I mention are cruelty-free, meaning they don’t test on animals. Some of the brands mentioned below may not be an entirely 100% vegan brand however to be included on this list, I made sure the brands clearly label which of their products are vegan or I have provided a corresponding vegan product list to help you figure out which of their products are vegan.

If you want to know which drugstore shampoos to avoid from brands that do test on animals, be sure to check the end of this post for a list of brands to avoid.

Speaking of haircare products, my friend recently opened her own hair salon and she was trying to figure out where the best place to get business energy from would be. There are so many options out there these days that she was getting in a bit of a headspin, so her partner suggested to her that she look into price comparison websites to find the best deal. She found a fantastic deal for her business through a website like Usave. If you’re interested to learn more, find out more here.

I only use cruelty free shampoo. I started using sulfate free shampoo from Maple Holistics and it does a real good job for my hair.

So great to hear you only use cruelty-free shampoo! =) Thanks for the recommendation, I gotta try them out! Do you know if they’re available in any drugstores?

Not a bad list at all but a shame they’re all packaged in plastic! Not on your list but they should be as one of the best 100% vegan, cruelty free, silicon free shampoos and conditioners out there and made by an ethical UK small business (good to see a small producer doing what the big pharms donโ€™t) and it works great on my tangled frizzy hair โ€“ I actually know what that word silky means after all these years of seeing it in other ads as it keeps my previously wild hair under control now at last! And forgot to mention that they are also non-plastic and no water!! so a double thumbs up from me. Check them out at The Solid Bar Company, thx Cat M

Ive been loving Live Clean shampoo’s for some time now and recently nocticed our dollar store had them so I picked up another 2 bottles for $2.50 ( WHAT !! ) I love how their shampoo makes my hair and is safe for my bleached processed hair as well. One that I also have in my shower is Avalon Organics, I have their dandruff shampoo and the rosemary volumizing and I love them both they work so well and I have fine hair and most shampoos weigh my hair down or make me really greasy.

YES, I’ve tried that Avalon Organics Rosemary shampoo as well and it’s one that I always reach for when I’m at the drugstore! I’m glad to hear it works for your hair type as well!! =)
