So-called “Cruelty-free” products have become increasingly popular in the last couple of years, but let’s take a step back and ask, what exactly does it mean when cosmetics, personal care, and household cleaning products are labeled as “cruelty-free”?
.
Products that are labeled as “Cruelty-Free” generally means they weren’t tested on animals, however, there is no standard or legal definition as to what is and isn’t allowed to be labeled as “cruelty-free”. So companies can call themselves and their products “cruelty-free” and it can mean whatever THEY want.
.
Misleading? — Yes.
Illegal? — No.
.
The FDA, responsible for regulating cosmetics labeling in the US, states on its website, “Consumers sometimes ask about use of claims such as “Cruelty-Free” or “Not Tested on Animals” on cosmetic labeling. Some cosmetic companies promote their products with claims of this kind in their labeling or advertising. The unrestricted use of these phrases by cosmetic companies is possible because there are no legal definitions for these terms.”
.
Unrestricted Use. No Legal Definition. — “Cruelty-Free” is now being used as a buzzword by marketers wanting to cash in on the trend.
.
But not ALL cruelty-free companies are liars and imposters. Some brands are genuinely committed to not testing their finished products and ingredients on animals, anywhere in the world.
.
But HOW do we know which cosmetic brands are telling the truth and are truly cruelty-free in 2020?
.
❶ Ask brands if their products or ingredients are tested on animals either by the company, their ingredient suppliers or commissioned to a third party and if they allow animal testing when required by law.
❷ Look for @leapingbunnyprogram brands --the most trusted cruelty-free certification program available!
❸ Check @ethicalelephant’s Cruelty-Free Brand Directory List where we have verified each and every brand's cruelty-free status before we list them (link in bio!)
.
Together, we can end animal testing for cosmetics once and for all!
.
Thank you for choosing cruelty-free! 🐘 💕

“It’s not about being perfect! And we don’t know any vegans who walk around saying that they are, or that they cause zero harm. Veganism doesn’t mean causing ZERO harm (that would be delusional)... but it definitely means causing a lot less of it!! And causing LESS harm than before (before being vegan) is definitely worth celebrating and continuing to advocate for.

Don’t let the vegan haters get you down. Usually the people pointing their fingers and trying to find a flaw in veganism are the ones who simply don’t understand it or don’t know what it takes to stand for something.” (Words by @vegan_boss, 📸 via @unmeatfuture)

I’m Saying #ByeByeAcne, Thanks to Nolaskinsentials’ Skincare!

It’s been awhile since an entire cruelty-free and vegan skincare range has impressed me but that all changed when I started incorporating Nolaskinsentials‘ facial cleanser, toner, and night creme into my skincare routine!

I’ve been using Nolaskinsentials for the past month and my skin has been responding so well to this all-natural & plant-based skincare line that I’ve already started noticing my skin to be clearer, brighter, and I have had fewer breakouts! Before I found Noalaskinsentials I’d been looking at Synergie Skin, which has products for all skin types, including for those with acne to help it clear up! This is something you could try if Nolaskinsentials doesn’t work for you.

OK, before I get ahead of myself.. here are some deets about Nolaskinsentials!

About Nolaskinsentials

  • All of Nolaskinsentials skincare is 100% Vegan and plant-based
  • Nolaskinsentials is also cruelty-free; none of their ingredients, finished products, or suppliers test on animals

Nolaskinsentials Vegan Skincare Review

I was kindly sent some of Nolaskinsential vegan skincare products to try. I filled out a short questionnaire asking about my skin type and if I had any allergies. My skin type is oily, acne-prone and my primary skin care concern is that I have dark spots or hyper pigmentation from my acne scars.

Clarifying Face Wash – Nolaskinsentials ($18)

This Clarifying Face Wash by Nolaskinsentials is a foam cleanser and does such a great job of cleansing and washing all the dirt and grime off my face. I use it in the morning and at night. I like to use an oil cleanser at night to take off my makeup but then I would follow-up with this foam cleanser to get a really deep cleanse.

Lavendula Toner – Nolaskinsentials ($16)

Nolaskinsentials’ Lavendula Toner claims to help sooth and balance the PH of our skin. I use this toner right after I cleanse my face with their clarifying face wash. It does sting a little on some areas of my face but very minimal and tolerable. It has a slight lavender and citrus smell to it but doesn’t linger.

This instantly helps to restore moisture back into my skin after I’ve washed it. I also love how this is packaged in a glass bottle too!

Gylcolic Night Creme – Nolaskinsentials ($17)

OK, this is the game-changer right here! Nolaskinsentials’ Glycolic Night Creme is one of the best night creams I’ve ever used! It is formulated with 10% glycolic acid. The claims of using this glycolic night creme are: decreased blackheads, brightened skin, increasingly even skin texture and cleaner pores free of excess sebum, dirt and bacteria. Good for all skin types.

After a month of consistently using this night cream, I’ve seen all the benefits that it claims to do. I’ve had fewer breakouts (even during the time of the month too!), my skin texture is a lot smoother and even, my dark spots and acne scars are brighter and lighter in color, and the blackheads around my nose are not as noticeable.

It’s safe to say that I LOVE THIS CREAM! You only need a little amount to cover your entire face, it does leave my face feeling a little oily so it’s perfect to use at night.

Final Words on Nolaskinsentials

I really enjoyed using Nolaskinsentials’ face cleanser, toner, and night cream. I definitely think my skin has been clearing up because I’ve been using all three skincare products from Nolaskinsentials but finding a cream that helps with both my acne and hyperpigmentation has always been a struggle for me which is why I’m SHOOK by the results and effectiveness of their glycolic night cream. As someone who has struggled with acne for a very long time, from trying out teenager acne treatment solutions to being able to identify what product work best for my skin just by checking the ingredients, I feel like I have come a very long way when it comes to skincare. Dealing with acne shouldn’t be embarassing, as so many people around the world go through the same thing. We’re all in this together. *Cue the High School Musical song*. It is important to remember that there is always a solution, which comes with time.

I’d love to know, What have you recently used that has completely changed up your skincare routine?
