Bite Beauty is a Canadian-based makeup brand, mostly known for its wildly popular use of food-grade ingredients in creating high-quality, clean, and natural lip products.
For the past several years, Bite Beauty has been known to be a cruelty-free brand but none of their lip products were vegan because they mostly contain beeswax, lanolin, or carmine. However, this all changed in 2020 and Bite Beauty is officially a 100% vegan brand!
Is Bite Beauty Cruelty-Free?
BITE Beauty is Cruelty-free! None of BITE Beauty’s ingredients, formulations, or finished products are tested on animals, anywhere in the world.
However, it should be noted that BITE Beauty is owned by Kendo, a subsidiary of LVMH which is a corporation that does test on animals when required by law.
BITE Beauty Animal Testing Policy
BITE Beauty has confirmed they do not test their products or ingredients on animals or ask others to test on their behalf. Their suppliers also do not test on animals nor do they allow their products to be tested on animals when required by law. And finally, their products are not sold in stores in mainland China or any other country that may require animal testing.
Below is a screenshot of BITE Beauty’s official animal testing statement:
BITE Beauty used to be certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny. However, some time in 2020, BITE decided not to recommit or renew their certification. This doesn’t automatically mean BITE is no longer cruelty-free.
To become Leaping Bunny certified is completely voluntary and the brand has just decided not to be certified with Leaping Bunny. I’m not sure what’s the reasoning behind this as Leaping Bunny is a reputable and trustworthy resource for thousands of cruelty-free consumers. But note that BITE remains to be PETA-certified cruelty-free.
Is BITE Beauty Sold in China?
All imported cosmetics sold in mainland China are required by law to be tested on animals. However, BITE Beauty has confirmed they do not sell their products in retail stores in mainland China and therefore they are not required to test on animals.
BITE Acquired by Kendo
In 2014, BITE Beauty was acquired by Kendo, an LVMH company that does test on animals when required by law.
Although BITE is owned by Kendo and LVMH, the brand has remained committed to being a cruelty-free brand.
Is Bite Beauty Vegan?
2020 Update: Bite Beauty is now officially 100% vegan! Bite Beauty has recently reformulated all of their products and have removed all animal-derived ingredients and by-products (like lanolin, beeswax, and carmine) from their entire collection.
However, it should be noted that their Lip Lab is not completely vegan, yet! They’re working on making it vegan in the near future.
